Stephen Clair: Music

Lucky As Can Be

(Stephen Clair)
I had a cup of coffee, the best in recent memory
But then I went and drank it, so now I’m moving on to tea
After that it will be whiskey, I’ll pull them bottles off the shelf
From the highlands to the lowlands, If I have to drink them all myself

If I’m feeling really giddy, I’ll try and find me a girl
But I’ll probably lose my marbles, when I find the best one in the world
And sure enough I did it, she came walking up the street
I stood there in the crosswalk, feeling lucky as can be

I never hit the big time
That’s alright with me
Some say there’s no such thing
I’m lucky as can be

I spent my whole life, eventually, some of yours
chasing after moonbeams, and walking into doors
you put up with a whole lot, and that whole lot was me
now I have you to thank, I’m as lucky as can be

I never hit rock bottom, as far as I can tell
You just drop your bucket, & leave the rest up to the well
I got nothing much to hide, In fact, I only see
What’s right there in front of me, and I’m lucky as can be

I’m not entirely convinced I believe in luck
Not that fame or fortune’ll leave you better off
So I’ll stick to being lucky in my own special way
I might be right where I started but at least I’m here today

I thank my lucky stars, …well, really there’s just the one
And it might be a satellite, but telescopes are fun
I looked in my neighbor's window, I coulda sworn she couldn't see … me …
I cut the light in the nick of time, I'm lucky as can be
